I have been onto audible books for more than 2 months now, officially that is. I have long been a podcast fanatics on certain topic, Mac, Windows, Security stuff, Gadgets… but thanks to the constant bombardment from Leo Laporte and its podcast, I have signed on to Audible account and has been rewarded greatly with the great selections and good titles they have.

Currently I am on Blue Ocean Strategy, on value innovation stuff… A good read.

Travelling to work or anywhere has never been the same… It allows me to get soaked in expanding my perspective while on the go and that is something that I find very very good for any modern citizen of the world… where there is sometimes, just too many things to get done and not prioritising reading is a no no in my opinion.

Four Hour Work Week coming up in my queue, next few audible books to get hold of.

Check out

Making something great… A good read

A well written article from a site /source that I love to read and check out on a weekly basis, Jackson Fish Market.

Here’s their latest quote from the founder, Hillel:

By no stretch of the imagination do I claim credit for having made something that lots of folks consider great (other than my kids). But we’re not talking about kids and as my wife will point out, I had only a modest role in that anyway. I’d like to talk about creating things that people use/consume. Products basically. Working in our little software startup we spend all our time either a) trying to make great stuff, or b) trying to help other folks make great stuff. Great doesn’t necessarily equate to popular, or commercially successful, but with the right patience and economic model I believe great always eventually finds an audience to support it.

Software and food are the realms from which I’ve gathered my observations. I’ve spent a lot of time using and making bad software. I’ve also spent a lot of time eating and cooking bad food. And once-in-awhile I’ve experienced great software and eaten great food. And once in a blue moon, I’ve even been minorly associated with those events. In my mind I’ve observed a clear pattern of how the great things come into being.

So, with full disclosure that we here at Jackson Fish are shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone else on this quest, I will share our perspective on how to get to great.

The “secret” is not really so secret as actually something that’s in plain sight but hard for everyone to grasp… it’s having an opinion. As they say… opinions are like assholes… but despite their lack of scarcity, they are the core to making something great.

Bringing life back to desktop email clients…

For a while now, our entire company of staff has moved all their emails into the cloud… The good thing was that we are using Google Hosted Email account which is a free service for small size company to have your company email hosted by Google!!! With that you get 6 over gig of mail box space and Google’s world class hosting services, speed and reliability.

Check out Google Hosted here.

Back to my post, so Outlook is pretty much dead in our company thanks to Google but I am probably still the only faithful one still using Outlook on a day to day basis, more because it gives me things like reminder and categories flag for different emails and task which is something that I find pretty useful. Gmail do have flag but nothing more detail. Thanks to IMAP support in Gmail, I find myself using both Outlook and Gmail rather seamlessly… but now, the tilt may change again, thanks to a company called Xobni!

Extracted from their site:

Xobni Insight is an add-on for Microsoft Outlook that offers effortless email management and provides instant access to the most important information in your email.

After a quick install, you’ll see the new Xobni toolbar appear in Outlook – and suddenly your Outlook productivity will burst to life with blazing fast email search, automatic phone number discovery, threaded conversations, and more.

Watch our demo video, or read below to see how Xobni Insight improves your email experience. Or better yet, sign up to try the beta right now:

It is so cool to see such innovation in desktop email clients again… I have signed up for the beta and hope the integration with Outlook is pretty solid cos I certainly don’t want my client to be crashing all the time. Microsoft, if you are on a buying spree this year for some good company / technology to bring life back to your Office suit, this could be one to look out for…

Can’t wait…
