Samsung i780 coming to Singapore…

with 3 comments

,

Months ago, I wrote a possible phone design from Samsung that could have been a major design win… see here for details. I forgotten to follow up after that article. Basically, I would rather have Samsung take out the D-Pad and the few keys above the keypad all together and give it more screen space instead. That would have been fantastic from usability standpoint in that since the key for Calls or Reject or direction pad are softkey based, it could be turned on or off depending on the application, given it more space to display the information on the already smaller screen.

What do you think? Do you think such devices are on the horizon? I have yet to see a Windows Mobile Devices that only has a screen and mini keyboard only. Most would have some hard keys to allow for Calls or D-Pad or Reject keys which honestly do take up the space… Could it not be solved by a software layer over the WM5-6 interface? Could Microsoft consider assisting hardware manufacturers with such changes to the OS layer if needed?

Anyway, I look forward for the Samsung i780 to arrive in Singapore. It will be noteworthy to see how Samsung is continuously pushing their design capability. Here’s the details.

Bill Gates last keynote at CES 2008…

,

This year CES keynote will be Bill Gates last keynote before he retire from Microsoft’s day to day activities and focus on his charity foundation which, honestly should be the greatest legacy that he will ever leave behind. That act has spur many towards the same cause of fighting for cure in poor and under developed countries. His close friend Warren Buffet has pledged crazy amount of $$$ going to the charity when his time is up…

I can’t wait for the possible 3 mins long of standing ovation to his guy… despite the blue screen of death and the massive disruption Microsoft has caused the whole globe of virus / spyware… (not their fault entirely, once you are way up there, everyone has only one target… but their products could have better testing before releasing to public… well, at least pre Vista days. Vista is rock solid thus far!)

But there’s a thought lingering in my mind thought about this coming keynote… What will he do different than last year or the year before.

1) I hope Bill Gates would wear a black t-shirt and blue jeans (inspired by Steve Jobs) and present his keynotes that way. Make a humorous joke out of that like ‘these days, Apple has inspired many things in our technology industry, including this keynotes…’ Yeah right. 🙂

2) Wow people with actual products rather than products that are coming out in 2 years time… that for most of its part, never get to see the light of day. I know it’s a industry trend that CES focuses on but heck, get some actual wow product on stage and really wow us for the last time.

3) Do a PC vs Mac ads with Bill Gates in it.

Stay tune for this Sunday / Monday (if you are in Singapore).

Leaked MacWorld 2008 Transcript…

,

According to InsanelyMac.com, there’s a leaked version of the MacWorld transcript available online now at their site here.

Interesting though is the idea that I posted weeks ago on something that probably Apple could pull off, a dual screen multi touch device. (I did not get any rumor or hint from any news site… but was just wondering off on some tech ideas…)

See my article here.

MacTouch
• New product not in the MacBook family
• Two 9″ multitouch-sensitve widescreens, both at 1280 x 854
• Innovative, minimalist, two-way folding/sliding, dual-screen, multi-position design with magnetic clasps. Inspired by the paperback book, but thinner, more flexible and surprisingly tough.
• No optical drive or mechanical HDD, uses a SSD drive.
• Will run most existing OS X apps when in dual screen mode; 2nd screen becomes keyboard and touchpad
• iPhone-ish springboard when in single screen mode
• Multitouch sensitive version of iPhoto
• Bluetooth, 802.11b/g, USB2.0, optical/analogue audio in/out, built in speakers & microphone.

It will be interesting to see if that really do come true at MacWorld. Then I will be one happy dreamer! 🙂

Personal Brain 4… Data Visualisation done right

leave a comment »

My boss came across this data visualisation tool and has since been using it for all sort of things. Prior to that, we are a complete sucker for MindManager but now, the Personal Brain seems to be filling up our screen.

Check out Personal Brain 4.0 here.

It will completely blow you away when you have tonnes of information and ideas in your head and you just want to dump them all down, somewhere… and to allow for easy connection be made among them. That’s where Personal Brain comes in.

You can drill down at every level easily from the tool. Parent – Child relationship… Interconnected relationship… Attachments… Notes…

It’s just MindManager blowing! 🙂 MindManager still have its place in our desktop for different usage / purpose but Personal Brain is slowly creeping in and taking over our idea dump…
