Silverlight… not a bad start.

Adobe Flex has dominated pretty much anything branded or ‘wow’ over the Internet. Microsoft on the other hand has been busy on many front… the recently announced Live Mesh, server tools and hypervisor stuff, and then the often neglected piece of the puzzle and that is Silverlight.

It is ignored particularly on the web as it’s still in 2.0 beta and unless you are a Microsoft house, you probably have never seen any sites using it other than some Microsoft web property asking you to try a Silverlight version of the download site or the Windows Update prompting you to install this thing called… Silverlight.

Anyway, it’s still pretty early to say how better it is… as compared to Flex as Adobe already has a lead in that area through Flash. Only very today did I manage to have a sneak peek at what Silverlight is capable of through this Patient Journey Demonstrator.

The rest of the other demo on Silverlight showcase are no where near this… Not a bad start… but a long way to go.

Certainly with the bulk of resources behind Microsoft… Silverlight will be something… someday…

Let’s give it 6 months… after the Olympics to see the impact of the its showcase through web streaming of the games.

Windows Mobile need a huge UI revamp!

By now there are many videos over the internet of the HTC Diamond and honestly, it’s a good attempt to add the UI / TouchFlo thingy but it is still crippled where areas outside the HTC UI is on… As stated in my previous post, Windows Mobile need a UI revamp and not knee jerk…

This attempt by HTC is certainly what they could do… but the overall experience is no where near iPhone. It is not your fault HTC, it’s Microsoft. They are late to the UI game and frankly, something they have always been less priority with until recently… with the hiring of Photoshop guru, Mark Hamburg. Sorry HTC, I kinda look forward to the Diamond coming to Singapore but I am more excited by what the iPhone 2.0 can bring to the table and when it is coming here.
